Museum

The Museum – Monastery of Sancti Spiritus el Real was founded in the 1980s in response to the need to preserve, protect and share the valuable artistic heritage of the monastery.

The guided visit allows visitors to explore the history of Toro and to discover part of the origins of the Order of Preachers in the city. Before the monastery of nuns was founded in the 14th century, there was already a friary of Preachers here, considered one of the first Dominican settlements in Castile and León.

Visitors enter the monastery along a route that passes through the choir, the church, the cloister, the chapter house, the refectory and a room of regional sacred art, which also safeguards and preserves valuable pieces from Toro and its district for greater security.

Standing in the heart of Toro, the Museum – Monastery of Sancti Spiritus el Real has witnessed the curious gaze of those who seek to travel through the past with the eyes of the present. It draws those who come moved by knowledge, painting, letters, faith and the passing of time.

It welcomes a diverse public, of every age and origin: from young visitors who approach in wonder at the scale of the monument, to older people who rediscover spaces linked to their own life experience.
