In the shade of a thousand years
Visitors fall silent as they step into the cloister of the Museum – Monastery of Sancti Spiritus el Real. The initial wonder felt at the start of the visit in the choir –where the remains of Doña Teresa Gil, Queen Beatriz of Portugal and Doña Leonor de Castilla, the first prioress of the monastery, rest– gives way to the astonishment that comes just before admiration, and to the smiling silence that follows on stepping out into the cloister as the tour continues. The explanations of the guide are interrupted by the exclamation «What peace!» from most visitors, who come to the museum without knowing what they are about to find.
That microcosm held between four stone wings, «governed» by a thousand-year-old Olive Tree, is central to the spirituality that has followed the trail of the centuries kept in the Museum – Monastery of Sancti Spiritus el Real.

Silence and recollection
The monastery is a house of contemplative life marked by enclosure. We ask you to keep an atmosphere of silence during the visit and to respect the hours of prayer of the community.
Guided visit
The monastery cannot be visited without a guide. Every visit is led by Ana: she is the person who holds all the information about the museum and organises the visits. You can get in touch with her below.
Photography
Photographing the nuns is strictly forbidden. We kindly ask for your respect.

⚠ Temporary closure notice: the museum will be closed on 8 September, feast of the Virgen del Canto, patroness of Toro and its district.
The museum season ends on the feast of the Immaculate Conception, 8 December 2026. It will open again on 27 March 2027, Holy Saturday, at the usual times.

Access to the museum, church and cloister with a guided visit.

Groups of more than 50 people will be split.

The monastery is in the historic centre of Toro, at C/ Canto, 27 · 49800 Toro (Zamora) — about a five-minute walk from the Plaza Mayor.
