Monumental alabaster tomb housing the remains of Beatriz of Portugal, queen consort of Castile through her marriage to John I. In Burgundian Gothic style, it was made for the monastery where the Queen spent her last years and where she died. It has been kept in situ since it was created. On the upper part Beatriz is depicted dressed in the Portuguese fashion. She also appears on one of the sides, but dressed as a widow or in the Dominican habit. On the other side the first Dominican saints are represented. The lower part is decorated with Portuguese coats of arms and lions with children in their jaws being devoured, severed heads or animals being eaten, representing the fleeting nature of life.
